About

I have been painting and drawing since childhood but never understood the level of commitment involved in drawing, painting or design until I studied at the at the Barnstone Studios in Coplay, PA.  It's owner and sole teacher, Myron Barnstone, shared insights on the methods of the masters and made it clear that the principles and strategies he taught were applicable to all areas and styles of visual art and design. After a seven-year investment of part time studies and two art education degress, I pursued a Master of Fine Arts at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.

After completing my MFA at the Academy, I taught in the Department of Art and Architecture at Lehigh University and later moved to SCAD, Savannah, where I teach in Foundation Studies and Scientific Illustration. I enjoy sharing the understandings and abilities gained from the Studios and the Academy with my students.

My paintings and drawings became symbolic during graduate school using plant imagery to describe concepts from scripture, so it was a natural step for me to earn a diploma in botanical painting from the Society of Botanical Artists, England.   All of my work embraces the traditions of classical proportion, composition systems and palette control.
